Shan is currently continuing his
study of silversmithing pursuing his MFA at the prestigious
Cranbrook Academy in Detroit. He has studied with one of
America’s great gold and silversmiths, Gary Knoffke. Shan uses
Gary’s Alloy silver in his creatiosn as opposed to the more
traditional sterling. Gary’s is a purer silver that lends itself
to the forging process better than sterling.
Shan strives for a combination of rawness and
delicacy in finish and form which allows the beauty of the silver
to show through. This aesthetic can only be achieved in an object
that is made entirely by hand.
A very limited number of pieces of Shan’s work are
available in Augusta, exclusively at Pastel.
